Sunflower State FC Joins UPSL Midwest South Division for 2021 Season
What is UPSL?
The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) was founded in 2011 and is the fastest-growing professional development (amateur) league in North American soccer. Over 350 teams are a part of its organization and there are plans for 400+ for the 2021-2022 season. Each team is individually owned and operated but must meet certain league minimum standards. UPSL is led by commissioner Yan Skwara.
So, what does that mean for Sunflower State FC? We will be officially sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), will be eligible to play in the qualifying rounds of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup (when Covid-19 restrictions are lifted), and will be part of a stable organization where we can grow our club and have more opportunities on a national level.
Who is in our Division?
Sunflower State FC will join the Midwest South Division of the UPSL along with Des Moines United, Barilleros, Inter Wichita, and Sporting Wichita. Look for a weekly countdown to the season as we formally introduce each of our opponents prior to the home opener on May 2nd, 2021 and play until 7-10-2021, when national playoffs begin.
We will also be playing several friendlies throughout the year against USL League Two teams, independent teams, and NPSL teams.
This season, Sunflower State FC has reached an agreement with Mill Valley High School and will play our Home Games at the Jaguar’s stadium, located at 5900 Monticello Rd Shawnee, KS 66226, just south of K-7 and north of Shawnee Mission Parkway on Monticello Road.
Please look out for our schedule and our social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) announcements for when each home game will be, instructions for parking, social distancing and safety, and more on the game day experience! We have several exciting promotions for our loyal fans!
Team Outlook:
We will be returning much of our team from the MASL III season with hopes to continue adding quality players after this Spring’s Open Tryouts on April 3rd. There will be a 40-man limit for the outdoor season and a 26-man game-day roster.
If SSFC continues their upward trajectory, they will have a good opportunity to win the Midwest South Division and move on to National League playoffs to test themselves against the best of the rest.
Nick McDonald will return as Head Coach along with Kenny Mayer as Assistant/Goalkeeping Coach.
Salvatore Sesti and William Bowler will provide the commentary for the home broadcast.
Owners Andrew Lentell and Joseph Lipoff will be special guests on broadcasts!
Charles Salazar and Bryan Clark will oversee game day operations.
Players’ names and jersey numbers will be announced after our April 3rd Spring Tryouts.
