After an opening loss in Springfield to the Demize, SSFC traveled to a beautiful Hartman Arena in Park City, KS just outside of Wichita to take on the Wings in both teams’ second game of MASL III.
The Wings II, who are a very young team, were coming off their first game of MASL where they lost 3-5 to the Omaha Kings the day before. Hartman Arena’s confines are much larger than your standard indoor arena and allowed SSFC to play more freely.
The game started off with both teams tying to implement their will on the other, however neither could find a breakthrough in the first period. At the start of the second period, Ruairi Cotter blasted one past Wichita’s goalie to break the deadlock on the Powerplay.
SSFC would add two more in the 2nd period, another two in the 3rd period before the floodgates opened into the 4th period. SSFC would go on to score 5 unanswered goals in the 4th as the Wings players all looked like they had gotten coal in their stockings this year.
Goals were scored by Isaias De la Torre (2), Carson Wells, Absalom Solario (2), Alex Acura, Girma Kassa, Tony de la Torre, and Wyatt Fowler. Goalie Tito Favela allowed the lone goal in the dying seconds of the 3rd period and played 3 periods. Jose Camberos kept a clean sheet with a few good saves in the 4th period.
I caught up with Head Coach Nick McDonald after the game and he said, “The thing that I am most proud of.., is the way we pressured them and limited their opportunities. We knew they were young and tired from the game [against Omaha] but the way we implemented our game plan and forced them to chase made me very proud.”
McDonald is also playing with the KC Comets this season and played in their tournament game against Wichita Wings 1st team following SSFC’s dismantling of their 2nd team.

The game Kicks off at 5:00 PM CST at
